Job Summary:

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for drawing blood from patients using various venipuncture techniques. The role includes distributing blood samples to the concerned laboratory departments and ensuring timely and accurate collection, processing, and transportation of specimens.

Key Responsibilities:

• Verify Patient Identification:
  Ensure proper patient identification as per the lab requisition slip and confirm the test requirements for each patient before collecting samples.
• Venipuncture Procedures:
  Perform accurate and gentle blood draws (venipuncture) on patients, ensuring that blood is properly collected and labeled according to laboratory protocols.
• Labeling and Sample Management:
  Immediately label each sample container after collection to avoid any mix-up, ensuring the right test is performed on the correct sample.
• Shift Work:
  Work in shifts as required, ensuring that phlebotomy services are available throughout the day.
• Patient Care:
  Perform phlebotomy in wards for inpatients as assigned, following the necessary protocols to ensure quality patient care.
• Collaboration:
  Work closely with laboratory and medical teams to ensure seamless operations and quality patient outcomes.

Knowledge & Competencies:

• Language Skills:
  Ability to read and write basic English to understand patient instructions and lab protocols.
• Technical Knowledge:
  Knowledge of various collection containers and their usage is preferred.
• Interpersonal Skills:
  Good communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, staff, and other medical professionals.
• Stress Management:
  Ability to stay calm and patient in stressful or difficult situations, providing care under pressure.

Requirements:

• Educational Qualification:
  • Inter-Science (Pre-Med), Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Diploma in Dispenser Course is an advantage but not essential.
• Experience:
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in performing venipuncture on adults and children (babies).
