The role focuses on managing the clinical pharmacy service, with a special emphasis on oncology pharmacy, cytotoxic drug admixture services, and liaising with the Department of Oncology. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of pharmacy services, especially in the oncology department.

Job Summary:
The Manager Pharmacy – Oncology is responsible for overseeing the pharmacy operations in oncology, focusing on the safe and effective use of sterile and cytotoxic drugs. This includes pharmacotherapy and cytotoxic drug admixture services, along with maintaining effective communication with consultants and faculty members in the oncology department. The role also requires managing pharmacy staff, ensuring adequate staffing during shifts, and driving the development and implementation of pharmacy services in line with national and international guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oncology Pharmacy Operations:
- Oversee day-to-day management of oncology pharmacy services.
- Ensure that the medication use system for oncology services is designed, implemented, and continuously improved to meet safety standards.
- Medication Management and Policy Development:
- Design and implement medication management strategies, policies, procedures, and processes in alignment with international/national standards and guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols for drug administration and patient care.
- Staff Training and Development:
- Supervise and train pharmacy staff to improve their competencies in oncology pharmacy services, especially in handling cytotoxic drugs.
- Foster capacity building through training and development programs.
- Drug Safety and Error Reporting:
- Establish systems to detect, report, and analyze drug errors, ensuring remedial actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain a rigorous system for ongoing medication safety and quality assurance.
- Inventory and Resource Management:
- Oversee inventory management and ensure the availability of oncology drugs and supplies as per hospital requirements.
- Monitor the procurement and cost-effectiveness of drugs and consumables.
- Collaborative Care:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, pharmacists, and nurses, to provide holistic patient care.
- Engage in clinical discussions related to drug therapy and medication management.
Knowledge & Competencies:
- In-depth understanding of drug therapy, clinical pharmacy, and medication management systems.
- Proficiency in managing oncology pharmacy operations, including inventory management and drug use safety.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with a focus on mentoring and training staff.
- Ability to handle diverse teams and work in high-pressure environments with flexible work hours.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
Requirements:
- Academic Qualification: Pharm-D or B-Pharm.
- Professional Qualification: Master’s in Pharmacy is preferred, along with specialized training in Clinical Pharmacy/Oncology Pharmacy such as BCOP (American Board Certified in Oncology Pharmacy).
- Work Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive hospital pharmacy experience, with 3-5 years in a managerial role, preferably in a teaching hospital.
- Other: Registered with the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan.
