Dr. Ziauddin Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager Pharmacy – Oncology to oversee the operations and management of the oncology pharmacy department. This role is integral in ensuring the safe and effective medication management of oncology patients, with a special focus on sterile and cytotoxic drug pharmacotherapy. The incumbent will collaborate closely with the oncology department, manage pharmacy operations, and contribute to staff training and capacity building in this highly specialized field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oncology Pharmacy Operations:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the oncology pharmacy, ensuring compliance with international standards and protocols.
- Design, implement, and monitor an effective medication management system, with a focus on oncology medications.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures for medication use, ensuring adherence to national and international guidelines.
- Staff Management and Training:
- Train and mentor pharmacy staff, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge to handle oncology drugs and medications safely.
- Supervise staff, manage shift rotations, and maintain adequate coverage of experienced professionals.
- Promote a collaborative work environment, encouraging staff to resolve operational and professional issues.
- Quality Control and Medication Safety:
- Establish systems for detecting, reporting, and analyzing medication errors, and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure the proper handling and disposal of cytotoxic drugs and other hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
- Monitor inventory and ensure an adequate supply of medications, ensuring the availability of essential drugs for oncology patients.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure adherence to the Medicine Management Framework and international standards in oncology pharmacy practices.
- Regularly review the system and inventory management for cost-effectiveness and safety.
Knowledge & Competencies:
- Expertise in Oncology Pharmacy: Must have established knowledge in oncology pharmacotherapy and cytotoxic drug management.
- Leadership & Team Management: Proven skills in staff training, managing team activities, and working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of inventory management systems, CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry), and other pharmacy-related computer systems.
- Analytical & Communication Skills: Strong ability to analyze data, report findings, and communicate effectively with the healthcare team and patients.
Requirements:
- Academic Qualification:
- Pharm-D or B-Pharm degree.
- A Master’s in Pharmacy is preferred, with specialized training in Clinical Pharmacy or Oncology Pharmacy (such as BCOP) being a plus.
- Registered with the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan.
- Work Experience:
- 8 to 10 years of progressive experience in hospital pharmacy, particularly in sterile, clinical, and oncology pharmacy services.
- 3 to 5 years of managerial experience, ideally in a teaching hospital setting.
- Key Skills:
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
- Proven expertise in managing and developing pharmacy services in a clinical environment.
