Position Overview

Position Title: Unit Head – Trade Based Money Laundering

Department: Compliance Control & Investigation Group (CCIG)

Grade: Vice President (VP)

Location: Al-Rahim Tower, Central Office, Karachi

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Strategic Advisory & Leadership

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality advisory support to the Chief Trade Officer (CTO) and business units on Trade AML matters.

  • Provide both quantitative and qualitative insights aligned with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex TBML and sanctions-related issues.

Team Management & Operational Oversight

  • Lead and manage teams responsible for trade onboarding, pre-transaction checks, and post-transaction monitoring.

  • Build a strong, skilled team capable of identifying Trade Sanctions risks, TBML red flags, and compliance gaps.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, vigilance, and continuous improvement.

Sanctions & High-Risk Transaction Review

  • Review and advise on transactions involving sanctioned or high-risk jurisdictions.

  • Prevent potential sanctions breaches, regulatory violations, and TBML risks before transactions are executed.

  • Ensure decision-making is documented, defensible, and regulator-ready.

Regulatory Reporting & STR Management

  • Oversee the timely preparation and review of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs).

  • Ensure STRs are reviewed by CAMLO/CCO prior to submission to the Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU).

  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.

Training & Compliance Culture

  • Actively participate in bank-wide AML/CFT/CPF/TBML awareness programs.

  • Serve as a trainer or subject-matter expert, strengthening the compliance mindset across the bank.

  • Keep teams updated on regulatory changes, emerging risks, and industry best practices.

Reporting, Audits & Process Improvement

  • Conduct trend analysis on TBML risks and provide structured reports to senior management.

  • Review internal and external audit findings and develop remedial action plans.

  • Lead initiatives to enhance and modernize TBML frameworks in coordination with line management.


Required Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background

  • Master’s Degree from an HEC-recognized institution

Professional Experience

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in:

    • Trade Operations

    • Trade Compliance

    • Governance & Risk Management

    • AML/TBML frameworks

Technical & Regulatory Expertise

  • Strong understanding of Trade Finance instruments and documentation

  • In-depth knowledge of the SBP TBML Framework

  • Ability to analyze trade transactions from sanctions, AML, and TBML perspectives

  • Experience working in an automated transaction monitoring environment (preferred)
