Job Summary:
The Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing blood collection using various venipuncture techniques as per laboratory protocols. They will ensure the safe collection, labeling, and distribution of samples to the clinical laboratory departments. The role involves interacting with patients to ensure that the correct samples are taken, maintaining hygiene and safety standards, and providing compassionate service.
Job Responsibilities:
- Patient Identification: Verify each patient’s identification according to the lab test requisition slip and confirm patient status through verbal questioning to ensure the test requirements are met.
- Blood Collection: Perform accurate and gentle venipuncture procedures to collect blood samples and inject them into appropriate containers according to test requirements.
- Sample Labeling: Immediately label each sample container after blood collection to ensure correct identification and avoid mix-ups.
- Sample Distribution: Distribute collected samples to the relevant clinical laboratory departments as per the test requirements.
- Maintaining Protocols: Adhere to lab protocols and ensure quality service in sample collection and handling.
Knowledge and Competencies:
- Empathy and the ability to comfort distressed or nervous patients.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with patients and lab staff.
- Knowledge of various collection containers and procedures for proper sample handling.
- Ability to follow established lab protocols and maintain sample integrity.
Requirements:
- Education: Intermediate (Pre-Medical) or a Diploma in Phlebotomy from Sindh Medical Faculty.
- Experience: 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in phlebotomy.
- Shift: Rotational shifts, flexibility is required.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, ability to empathize with patients, and attention to detail.
