Job Summary:
The Phlebotomist will be responsible for drawing blood using various venipuncture techniques, ensuring the samples are handled and distributed correctly to the relevant clinical laboratory departments. The role requires accuracy, adherence to protocols, and the ability to work under pressure to provide excellent service to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Blood Collection: Perform accurate and gentle venipuncture to collect blood samples as per laboratory protocols.
- Sample Handling: Ensure all sample containers are properly labeled immediately after collection to avoid mix-ups.
- Sample Distribution: Distribute collected samples to the concerned clinical laboratory departments as required.
- Ward Service: Provide phlebotomy services in the wards for in-patients, ensuring timely and accurate service.
- Domiciliary Service: Perform blood collection for immovable out-patients as per laboratory protocols when needed.
- Patient Identification: Verify each patient’s identity to ensure that correct samples are collected, based on the test requirements.
Requirements:
- Academic Qualification: Matric-Science or Inter-Science (pre-med) preferred.
- Professional Qualification: A Diploma in Dispenser course is preferred but not essential.
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in venipuncture, including experience with both adults and babies.
Knowledge & Competences:
- Ability to read and write simple English.
- Knowledge of various collection containers and their appropriate use.
- Good interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients and staff.
- Neat and clean appearance to maintain a professional image.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations, ensuring quality care.
