Denning is excited to announce an opening for the position of Sociology Instructor. We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable instructor to teach the foundation-level course titled “Society, Culture, and Global Issues.” This course serves as an introduction to key sociological and cultural concepts while encouraging students to critically analyze global challenges.
Position Overview
As a Sociology Instructor at Denning, you will have the opportunity to engage students with foundational sociological concepts and contemporary issues. You will be responsible for teaching the course content, creating a dynamic classroom environment, and guiding students through discussions that challenge their thinking and broaden their understanding of global society.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach Foundation-Level Sociology:
Lead students through the course “Society, Culture, and Global Issues,” which introduces topics such as culture, identity, socialization, globalization, and more. - Facilitate Critical Thinking:
Encourage students to critically evaluate global challenges, such as inequality, human rights, and the impacts of globalization and climate change. - Develop Lesson Plans & Curriculum:
Prepare and deliver engaging lessons that align with course objectives. Adapt teaching strategies to cater to the diverse learning needs of students. - Create Inclusive Learning Environment:
Foster an inclusive and respectful learning space where students are encouraged to engage, question, and explore sociological topics. - Assess Student Progress:
Design and grade assignments, projects, and exams. Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their understanding of the subject matter.
Topics Covered in the Course
- Society, Culture, Identity, and Socialization:
Understand the ways in which societies form and evolve, and how individuals interact with culture and identity. - Power, Social Institutions, and Inequality:
Examine the power structures within society and their impact on social institutions like education, family, and religion. - Globalization, Migration, and Cultural Dynamics:
Discuss the effects of globalization on migration and cultural exchange, exploring both positive and negative aspects. - Media Influence and Global Communication:
Analyze how media shapes social norms and global communication, and its influence on society at large. - Climate Change, Human Rights, and Global Citizenship:
Study the intersection of environmental issues, human rights, and the role of global citizenship in addressing global problems.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Strong Academic Background in Sociology or related fields.
- Experience in Teaching O/A Levels or equivalent educational levels.
- Commitment to Creating Inclusive and Thought-Provoking Learning Experiences.
- Ability to engage students in critical thinking and discussion of global issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a collaborative classroom environment.
