Understanding Key Quality Metrics

DHU (Defects per Hundred Units)

DHU measures the number of defects found per 100 garments inspected. Lower DHU indicates better manufacturing quality and fewer production defects.

Example:

If 500 garments are inspected and 20 defects are identified:

DHU = (20 ÷ 500) × 100 = 4

A lower DHU reflects stronger process control.

AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit)

AQL is the internationally recognized inspection standard used by garment buyers to determine whether a production lot meets acceptable quality requirements. Inspectors examine a sample from each batch, and shipments pass or fail based on the allowable number of defects.

RFT (Right First Time)

RFT measures the percentage of garments produced correctly during the first manufacturing attempt, without requiring repairs or rework.

Higher RFT values indicate:

  • Better production efficiency
  • Lower manufacturing costs
  • Faster delivery
  • Higher customer satisfaction

CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action)

CAPA is a structured quality improvement approach used to:

  • Correct existing problems.
  • Prevent recurring defects.
  • Improve manufacturing processes.
  • Enhance product consistency.
  • Reduce customer complaints.
