About the HSE Executive Position

The HSE Executive will be responsible for supporting safe working conditions across the factory while also ensuring that the facility’s environmental activities comply with applicable EPA requirements.

This is a hands-on factory-based HSE position. The selected professional will be expected to spend time monitoring workplace activities, inspecting work areas, identifying risks, conducting safety training, overseeing contractors, maintaining safety systems, and supporting environmental compliance.

The role also carries specific responsibility for wastewater treatment and coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency.

Key Responsibilities

Health and Safety Management

One of the primary responsibilities will be to promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture throughout the factory.

The HSE Executive will conduct workplace inspections, identify unsafe conditions and practices, assess potential risks, and help ensure that corrective actions are implemented.

The employee will also conduct daily Gemba walks. A Gemba walk involves visiting the actual workplace or production area to observe operations, identify safety issues, communicate with employees, and understand problems directly where the work takes place.

Permit to Work (PTW) System

The selected candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the company’s Permit to Work (PTW) system.

PTW systems are commonly used to control potentially hazardous activities such as hot work, electrical work, confined-space entry, maintenance activities, and work at height.

Candidates with practical experience managing PTW documentation and ensuring safety requirements are completed before hazardous work begins should highlight this experience in their CV.

HSE Training and Employee Awareness

The HSE Executive will conduct health, safety and environmental training and awareness sessions for employees.

This may involve educating workers about workplace hazards, personal protective equipment, emergency procedures, safe work practices, fire safety, environmental requirements, and other HSE procedures relevant to factory operations.

Contractor Safety

The position also involves monitoring contractors working at the facility.

The HSE Executive will need to ensure that contractors follow established safety procedures and perform their activities according to safe working practices.

Experience with contractor safety management, contractor induction, PTW procedures, and site inspections can therefore be particularly useful for this position.

Risk Assessments and Workplace Inspections

The HSE Executive will regularly conduct:

  • Daily Gemba walks
  • Workplace safety inspections
  • Risk assessments
  • Safety audits
  • Hazard identification activities

The purpose of these activities is to identify hazards before they result in incidents and ensure appropriate preventive or corrective measures are implemented.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Responsibilities

Environmental management is an important part of this position.

The HSE Executive will be responsible for operating and monitoring the wastewater treatment plant in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency requirements.

The candidate will need to monitor wastewater treatment activities and help ensure that wastewater discharge and other environmental operations remain compliant with applicable EPA standards.

Candidates who already have experience with industrial wastewater treatment, effluent monitoring, environmental sampling, treatment processes, or environmental compliance should clearly mention this experience when applying.

EPA Compliance and Reporting

The selected candidate will also handle important environmental regulatory responsibilities.

These include preparing and submitting quarterly environmental compliance reports to the Environmental Protection Agency, maintaining relevant environmental records, and ensuring that required environmental activities comply with EPA standards.

The HSE Executive will also coordinate EPA visits and inspections and assist with any regulatory compliance requirements raised during these interactions.

This means candidates should be comfortable with both practical environmental management and regulatory documentation.

Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness

Another major responsibility is maintaining the factory’s fire and emergency safety arrangements.

The HSE Executive will monitor:

  • Fire extinguishers
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Other fire safety equipment
  • Equipment inspection and expiry status
  • Emergency preparedness arrangements

The employee must ensure that fire safety equipment is not expired, defective, or otherwise unsuitable for emergency use.

The role also involves conducting regular mock emergency and fire drills to test employee preparedness and emergency response procedures.

Qualification Requirements

Candidates should hold either a:

Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in:

Environmental Engineering or Environmental Sciences

Candidates should ensure that their educational qualifications are clearly mentioned on their CV.

Professional Certifications

Candidates holding NEBOSH or IOSH certification will be preferred.

These certifications are particularly relevant to occupational health and safety roles and can strengthen an application when combined with practical manufacturing or industrial HSE experience.

The advertisement lists these certifications as preferred rather than stating that they are mandatory.

Experience Required

Applicants should have 2 to 3 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing setup.

Relevant experience may include occupational health and safety, environmental compliance, factory inspections, risk assessments, wastewater treatment, fire safety, PTW management, contractor safety, HSE training, or regulatory reporting.

Candidates should focus their CV on practical HSE responsibilities rather than simply listing their job titles.

Skills to Highlight on Your CV

Applicants may benefit from prominently highlighting relevant experience with HSE management, Permit to Work systems, risk assessment, Gemba walks, safety inspections, contractor safety, NEBOSH/IOSH practices, wastewater treatment, EPA compliance, environmental reporting, fire safety systems, emergency drills, incident prevention, and employee safety training.

Practical examples or measurable HSE responsibilities from previous manufacturing roles can make the candidate’s experience easier for recruiters to evaluate.
